How to Keep Inventory in Minecraft
Have you ever spent hours exploring and gathering valuable resources in Minecraft, only to lose everything when you meet an untimely demise? It can be frustrating and discouraging, especially for newer players. Luckily, there is a way to prevent this from happening by enabling the “Keep Inventory” option. In this guide, we’ll walk you through the process of enabling and using this feature.
Step 1: Enabling Cheats
Before you can activate the “Keep Inventory” setting, you need to have cheats enabled in your Minecraft world. Here’s how you can do it:
- Open Minecraft and select the world you want to enable cheats for from the main menu.
- Click on the “Edit” button, represented by a pencil icon, next to the selected world.
- On the next screen, click on “Open World Folder.”
- This will open the file explorer, and you should see a list of files. Look for a file named “level.dat” and open it with a text editor.
- In the text editor, find the line that says “allowCheats”:false and change the “false” to “true”.
- Save the file and exit the text editor.
Step 2: Enabling Keep Inventory
Now that you have cheats enabled, you can proceed to enable the “Keep Inventory” setting. Follow these steps:
- Open Minecraft and load the world for which you enabled cheats.
- Press the “Esc” key on your keyboard to access the in-game menu.
- Click on “Open to LAN” to open a local network game.
- In the next window, toggle the “Allow Cheats” option to “On” and click on the “Start LAN World” button.
- The game will reload, and you’ll see a message confirming that cheats are now enabled.
- Open the chat window by pressing “T” on your keyboard and type “/gamerule keepInventory true” (without the quotes) and press “Enter”.
- The “Keep Inventory” feature will be activated, and you will no longer lose your items upon death.
Step 3: Testing the Feature
To ensure that the “Keep Inventory” setting is working correctly, you can test it by dying and verifying that you retain your inventory. Follow these steps:
- Find a safe place and intentionally fall from a height, engage in combat, or trigger any other method of taking damage that would typically result in death.
- Once you respawn, check your inventory. You should find that all your items are still present.
- Congratulations! You have successfully enabled and tested the “Keep Inventory” feature in Minecraft.
Remember to disable cheats once you’re done testing or if you want to play in a non-cheat enabled mode by reversing the changes made in Step 1. Keep in mind that enabling cheats may disable achievements in your world.
Now that you know how to activate the “Keep Inventory” feature, you can freely explore and take risks in Minecraft without worrying about losing your precious loot upon death. Enjoy your uninterrupted adventures!
