Tteokbokki Recipe
Tteokbokki, a popular Korean street food, is a spicy and savory rice cake dish that is enjoyed by many. It’s easy to make and incredibly delicious. In this post, I will share my favorite tteokbokki recipe that you can easily recreate at home.
Ingredients:
- 2 cups of tteok (rice cakes)
- 1 cup of fish cake slices
- 3 tablespoons of gochujang (Korean red pepper paste)
- 1 tablespoon of gochugaru (Korean red pepper flakes)
- 1 tablespoon of soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon of sugar
- 2 cloves of garlic (minced)
- 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil
- 4 cups of water
- 2 green onions (chopped)
- Sesame seeds for garnish
Instructions:
- Soak the tteok (rice cakes) in cold water for about 20 minutes. This will help soften them and make them chewier.
- In a large pan, heat the vegetable oil over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté for a minute until fragrant.
- Add the fish cake slices to the pan and stir-fry for about 2 minutes.
- In a small bowl, mix together the gochujang (Korean red pepper paste), gochugaru (Korean red pepper flakes), soy sauce, and sugar to make the sauce.
- Add the sauce to the pan and stir everything together to coat the ingredients evenly.
- Pour in the water and bring it to a boil. Once boiling, reduce the heat to medium-low and let it simmer for about 10 minutes, until the sauce thickens slightly.
- Drain the soaked tteok (rice cakes) and add them to the pan. Stir gently to coat them with the sauce.
- Continue cooking for another 5-7 minutes, or until the tteok (rice cakes) are tender and cooked through.
- Sprinkle chopped green onions and sesame seeds over the dish for garnish.
- Serve hot and enjoy!
